Description |
This is a wedding cake box. The cardboard box lid is covered with ivory paper embossed with fleur di lis. There is a gold edged cardboard name plate glued to the top. There are gold initials in the corners. The interior has an embossed paper lace flap and a waxed paper in which to wrap the cake. |

Cake box from the 1912 wedding of Mary T. Graham and David Prewitt in Lexington. Both were members of prominent Lexington families. Mary was a 1906 graduate of Stanford, the daughter of a bank president and granddaughter of a president of Translyvania University. David Prewitt's father was Richard H. Prewitt, an attorney. David Prewitt's first wife had died in 1903, leaving him with four young children. The couple lived a "Dunreath" on Winchester Pike. |
