Description |
This brown glass bottle is in the shape of a log cabin. It is tall with rectangular sides that mimic round logs stacked like a log house with a flat surface in a door shape and three windows with mullions in front and back. The shoulders of the bottle taper to the neck in a roof shape with gable ends. On the roof on the front is "HOLTZERMANN'S" and on the back is "PATENT / STOMACH / BITTERS." |
Notes |
In the 1860s, Christopher August Holtzermann opened a drug store on Main Street Piqua, Ohio. He patented a bitters formula on May 7, 1867. He died in 1875 and the business was taken over by his sons who expanded the business. At some point the Holtzermann brothers sold the Holtzermann Stomach Bitters to Ahrendt & Son Co. from Toledo, Ohio. The business closed about 1915. |
