Description |
This is a steel buttonhook that is made of one piece of steel. There is a hook on one end and a flattened loop handle on the other and the loop is not closed. There is an inscription on the handle that reads "J.H. Reister Department Store." |
Notes |
Buttonhooks were tools designed to facilitate the fastening of buttons on gloves, garments, boots and shoes. They date from the mid 17th century, but were in most common use by the late Victorian era. The J.H. Reister Department store was located in Cynthiana, KY in the early 20th century. |
