Description |
This is a bolt from a sill beam on the Old Capitol cupola. It includes (a) a wrought iron bolt that is blacksmith forged. It has a square head, slightly tapered square section body, and a hand threaded 1.75" long section on tip. There is also (b) a square wrought iron washer cut from sheet iron and (c) .375" thick blacksmith made square wrought iron nut. |
Notes |
During the renovation of the Old State Capitol in the early 1970s, several damaged original plates around the base of the cupola were removed by Harold Stockton, a contractor from Lawrenceburg. Stockton raised the dome one section at a time, removed the plates and replaced them with framed plywood plates prepared by Lyons Lumber of Frankfort. This bolt came from a plate that Stockton saved as a souvenir. |
