Notes |
Stuart Price Hemphill received the cup from his grandfather Lewis Hemphill of Jessamine County. Hemphill believed that the cup was won at a fair or horse show as a prize. The maker, Charles Asmann, emigrated to Cincinnati from Germany in 1854. Shortly thereafter he moved to Covington, where he became a successful jeweler and watchmaker. He frequently sold Cincinnati silver under or alongside his own mark. |
