Description |
This is a ladderback straight chair. It is made of maple with oak slats and stretchers. There are two stretchers on the front and sides. There is one stretcher in the back. It has turned finials on the back posts and scoring on all legs. |
Notes |
Acquired from the Salt River Baptist Church, near the Anderson-Mercer County line. The chairs were given to the Church c. 1842 by prominent member Matthew Duncan (1817-1899). Duncan was a successful farmer and community leader. Notes in 2000.33 file say Matthew Duncan made chairs for the Salt River Baptist Church. |
