Description |
This is a pencil drawing of an artillery march toward Bowling Green, Kentucky in 1862. The image shows men on mules and horses dragging caissons. In the foreground there is a line of men. From the left: a man on a horse carrying a guidon with an inscription, a caisson with two men riding in front of it. The caisson is being pulled by three horses or mules. There are men riding the animals. At the end (far right) is a man on a horse blowing a bugle. In the mid-ground there is another line of horses or mules pulling a caisson. This one is pointed to the left of the image. There are shrubs and a rail fence with two men with rifles on their shoulders on the right side of the image. There is also a tall leafless tree on the right side of the mid-ground. In the background are more leafless trees with birds both flying and sitting in the trees. There is a faint line of more men and cannon on the right side. The title of the piece is written in pencil across the top of the drawing. The artist's name is in the lower right hand corner. |
