Notes |
The 623rd Field Artillery Battalion (Glasgow, Tompkinsville, Campellsville, Monticello, Springfield) participated in Desert Storm. On 9 December 1990, the units left for training at Fort Campbell. The battalion departed for Saudi Arabia on 9 February 1991, arriving in Dhahran. The battalion was assigned to the 196th Field Artillery Group, with a General Support mission. As the ground war progressed the battalion advanced through the deserts of Saudi Arabia and Iraq, attempting to catch up with the Iraqi Republican Guard, but the ground war was over before they could engage them. There were no casualties or injuries within the battalion. Recovered form the Republican Guard Compound 20 kilometers West of Al-Basra, Iraq. |
