Notes |
The donor, Peter Keam, collected political yard signs that amused him or had unusual names. Knott County, Ky., businessman Benny Ray Bailey first ran for 29th district Kentucky State Senate seat in 1980 as a Democrat. In the 1983 primary for his reelection, the race against Democrat Ray Turner was very heated. Bailey served as Senator of the 29th district for 20 years. In 2000, Johnny Ray Turner, Ray Turner's son, ran against Bailey in the Democratic Primary for the same seat. Turner defeated Bailey and as there was no Republican candidate won the senate seat. The 29th district includes Knott, Breathitt, Floyd and Johnson counties. |
