Description |
This is a cotton pieced quilt in the "Kentucky Star" pattern. The predominant fabrics are plain ecru, brown calico, terra cotta calico, ecru calico and a calico that has curvy chain pattern which is predominantly brown. The quilt is made of four rows of four stars, separated by large diamonds. The stars are made of the regular calico fabirc and the diamonds are made of the calico with the curvy design. The triple border is made of segments of ecru (next to the main section of the quilt), terra cotta, and the brown curving print fabric on the outside edge. The quilt has a binding made of brown calico.The quilt has a very thin layer of polyfill batting. |

This quilt was made by Minnie Prater and Karen Witt of Wallingford. The design for this quilt was chosen from 71 entries submitted for the Kentucky Historical Society's "Kentucky Star Quilt" Contest. The contest was created so the museum would have in its collection a quilt made with the Kentucky Star pattern. |
