Description |
This is a wristwatch that was created for the re-election campaign of Tom Buford. The watch has a black leather band with a gold metallic buckle. The watch has a gold metallic body with white face featuring seal of the state of Kentucky. The hours are marked in roman numerals on outer body. The inscription on the face of the watch reads, "SENATOR / TOM BUFORD". Back of the watch reads, "FASHION / WATCH INC. / DIALS DESIGN CALIFORNIA / HONG KONG CASE / JAPAN MOVT." The back of the strap of the watch has gold letters stamped into it reading, "GENUINE LEATHER." The top back of the buckle reads, "HONG KONG," which has been printed by raising the metal to form those words. Included with the watch are three cards. The first contains the warranty information for the watch as well as instructions for maintenance. The second has a handwritten inscription of, "Feb. 13., 1996" on the back of Senator Buford's business card. The business card contains the Kentucky State Seal at the top and the inscription, "Senate / SENATOR TOM BUFORD / Republican Caucus Chairman / State Capitol Building / Frankfort, KY 40601 (502) 564-2450". The third card is another business card for Tom Buford. On the back of the third card is written, "I wore this watch. / Feb. 13, 1996 [date underlined] / Tom Buford". |

The items in this collection were gathered by the KHS staff in 1994 in an attempt to get campaign items from all of the members of the 1994 Kentucky General Assembly. According to a letter to the members of the assembly from Dr. Klotter, the staff had noticed a gap in the political collection in the area of state legislative campaign memorabilia. The members of the assembly were asked to donate one campaign item. This watch was donated by Senator Tom Buford. |
