Description |
This is a political cartoon by Hugh Haynie with the caption "'Rest Assured I'll Save You From Yon Foul Dragon,' Said Don Quixote." This is a printed drawing of a man, meant to represent former Kentucky governor Albert Benjamin (Happy) Chandler - ABC. Happy is wearing the breast plate of a suit of armour with "Happy" written on the stomach. He holds a sword that has been tied into a knot in his right hand and points with the index finger of his left hand. There is a shield strapped to his left arm with two crossed lines and the text, "A~B~C~ / in / '63." Happy is barefoot and wearing pants that have been patched several times. Happy is riding a horse that has collapsed under his weight. The horse is flat on the ground with its tongue out in a state of exhaustion. It has four bandages throughout its body. In the background of the print is a windmill with a sign that reads, "LIMITED CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION" The caption "'Rest Assured I'll Save You From Yon Foul Dragon,' Said Don Quixote" is printed below the image. The print has a handwritten date that reads, "10-29-60." It is inscribed in the same ink "For Ruth Murphy / -best wishes- / Hugh" |
