Description |
This presidential campaign fan is white with red and blue stripes at the top and bottom. The top stripes roughly form the shape of an eagle's head and beak while the bottom stripes form no identifiable image and are simply providing a bottom border to the piece. Below the top stripes in capital blue letters is printed "I'm a fan of;" this message has a red star on either side of it. Under this, to the left, is a black and white image of Al Gore and Joe Lieberman. To the right of these images in black text is printed "Al and Joe / in 2000." To the bottom right of this black text is a small oval shaped mark which is black with white letters that spell out "USA." In the bottom right corner of the fan, between the red and the blue stripe, is printed "© 1999 DJR." The fan has a wooden handle that is attached by two metal staples. The handle is thin and has rounded ends. |
Notes |
Albert Arnold "Al" Gore, Jr. served as the 45th Vice President of the United States from 1993 to 2001 under President Bill Clinton. He was the Democratic Party's nominee for President and lost the 2000 U.S. presidential election despite winning the popular vote. Before his time as Vice President, Gore served in the U.S. House of Representatives (1977-85), and later in the U.S. Senate (1985-93) representing the state of Tennessee. His running mate in the 2000 election was Joseph Isadore "Joe" Lieberman. Lieberman was a member of the Connecticut Senate from 1971 to 1981 and was the state's Attorney General from 1983 to 1989. Lieberman defeated Lowell Weicker in 1988 to win election to the United States Senate and was re-elected in 1994 and 2000. Gore and Lieberman were defeated by George W. Bush and Dick Cheney in the controversial 2000 Presidential Election. This object was donated in April of 2004 by Drexell R. Davis. Davis, a self-described "Yellow Dog" Democrat, held several elected positions in the Kentucky state government. His thirty-three years of public service prompted his interest in collecting political memorabilia. |
