Description |
This is an Army rucksack, model 88B. It is made of an olive drab cotton canvas and has a large main bag with three pockets on the surface. The pockets have flaps with leather strap closures. The straps have roller buckles and there are two tabs with two grommets on each surface of the bag to attach gear. There is a draw string closure for the main bag and the top flap has an interior zipper pocket. There are cotton webbing straps with buckles used to secure the top flap over the main bag to protect the contents from water. The main bag is attached to a hollow steel frame. The frame is cushioned at the top with a leather pad. There is cotton webbing attached to the frame to form a harness for the shoulders. Webbing was also used as a lower back pad. The waist strap is attached with metal spring clips. |
Notes |
The rucksack was issued to Hubert Greer of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, during his service in Italy during WWII. Greer returned home with the pack and passed it on to the donor, Joseph Burgess, to use as a Boy Scout pack. |
