Notes |
Worn by Robert L. "Bob" Bailey (1940-2022) of Louisville, Kentucky. After retiring from the Louisville Fire Department in 1981 and the Kentucky National Guard in 1988, Bob's final career was director of security for Churchill Downs in Louisville. One of the major changes he oversaw at the racetrack was emergency response. Bailey enacted a greater police presence and an ambulance at every gate. As a certified deputy sheriff, he regularly worked with United States Marshals to ensure extra security for athletes, politicians, and even Queen Elizabeth II. Bailey also assisted in organizing and working the annual Kentucky Oaks Survivors Parade which celebrates breast and ovarian cancer survivors. Bob retired from Churchill Downs in 2004, but he continued to assist during Derby week for several years. |
