Description |
This political button was made for the 1956 presidential campaign of Adlai Stevenson and Estes Kefauver. The button is made with a celluloid-type process with a tin backing, a paper insert and a plastic covering. The piece has a white background and features black and white photographs of the candidates surrounded by printed ovals bearing their names and a series of 12 stars per oval. The first reads: "PRESIDENT/ADLAI E. STEVENSON" and the second reads "VICE.PRESIDENT/ESTES KEFAUVER." The images have a series of horizontal blue lines printed between them and an United States shield is printed above them featuring the stars and stripes with an eagle at the top. The button is outlined with olive branches depicted in blue. The backing has a pin and hook closure and there is a white oval sticker affixed to the back from a store or sales venue. The maker's mark is crimped into the paper at the edge of the button and is illegible. There is also a union stamp on the other side. |
