Notes |
The donor's husband collected a variety of items related to tobacco: ash trays, pipes, tobacco tins etc. He purchased this humidor not only because of the tobacco relation but because of the name "Henry Clay" being associated with it. Cuban tobacco manufacturer Julian Alvarez created the "Henry Clay" cigar brand in the 1840s. Named for the famous American politician Henry Clay these cigars, made in Havana, were one of the most popular in the 19th century United States Today, these cigars are made by the Altadis USA company in both the Dominican Republic and Honduras. |
