Description |
This is a yellow satin jockey silk with cream satin applique. The applique is arranged in a series of four inch squares to create a checkered pattern throughout. There is a high cream satin collar with a yellow and cream bow stitched below it. Four covered buttons extend down the front. A line of green stitches runs down either side of the yellow covered button. The yellow buttons have buttonholes made of green thread. The hem is stitched with a green thread. A yellow satin epaulets accent is on the proper right shoulder. The cuffs are made of cream silk. There is a tag behind the proper right placket that reads "MADE BY / MRS. CLIFFORD PORTER / LEXINGTON, KY." |

This belonged to Anita Madden. Madden and her family owned the 2,000 acre Hamburg Place Horse Farm, which was originally founded in 1898. The farm is famous for its legacy of racehorses, including Triple Crown winner Sir Barton. Anita Madden was known for hosting extravagant Kentucky Derby Eve parties which were attended by celebrities. |
