Notes |
John Jordan Crittenden (1787-1863) was governor of Kentucky from 1848 to 1850. Crittenden persuaded the legislature to call a constitutional convention to create Kentucky's third state constitution. A strong believer in education, Crittenden also provided crucial support to Robert J. Breckinridge, Kentucky's first superintendent of public instruction. Crittenden resigned in 1850 to take the position of attorney general in President Millard Fillmore's cabinet. The artist, Ferdinand G. Walker (1859-1927), was active in Indiana and Kentucky. He is known for Portrait and landscape murals. |
