This is a print from a wood engraving of a sketch by Henri Lovie. It is from "Leslie's "Illustrated History of the War of 1862", New York, 1895. It was originally published by Leslie in his August 16, 1862 edition of his "Illustrsated History, etc." It is captioned "The Fight at the Licking Bridge, Cynthiana, Between the National Troops and the Morgan Rebel Guerrillas." The foreground shows Union troops firing rifles across the Licking River at Morgan's Raiders in the town. The middle ground shows a covered bridge with Union cavalry advancing. The background shows the town of Cynthiana with Confederate troops running to take the bridge and firing a cannon at the Federals. |
