Description |
This poster is a full color lithograph for a production of "The Pirates of Penzance." There are five scenes: the top left scene has two pirates in blue jackets, yellow shirt, and red tights, in the top right women recline on beach, the center one has man in red atop rock with British flag, the bottom left scene is filled with policemen and the bottom right has two men and a woman looking at map. Inscription in part, "D'OYLY CARTE'S / OPERA COMPANY…MACAULEY'S THEATRE! / ONE WEEK, / AND SATURDAY MATINEE, COMMENCING / MONDAY, Dec. 20." There is a maker's mark by "Monday." |

This is one of several theater posters that were used as packing material. They were found in the attic of the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Ky. They were transferred to the Kentucky Historical Society in 1991. |
