Description |
This is a Marine Corps dress uniform cape. It is black wool with a red wool lining. There is a black velvet collar and the outside edge of the cape is trimmed with black twill tape. There is a three hook closure at the collar. The cape has three covered buttons--the fourth button is missing. The button holes are concealed. There is a knotted cord decoration (a frog) at the collar that attaches to a toggle button on the proper right side.There are two internal welt pockets and a chain for hanging the cape located near the label in the collar. |

Worn by Ronald Van Stockum, one of 85 men who in 1937 who became commissioned officers from various universities around the United States. After spending 30 years in the Marine Corps Ronald and his wife Ann retired to the Allen Dale Farm in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Ronald Van Stockum began managing the Allen Dale farm full time in 1970 and also became an administrator at the University of Louisville. He retired from the university in 1981. |
