Description |
This is a Tennessee Square marble set. It contains hand-ground spheres of quartzite used as a marbles. Quartzite is harvested from creek beds in south central Kentucky. The nine large marbles regionally are called "money" and the six small marbles regionally are called "taw". |
Notes |
Paul Moore, of Glasgow, was a maker of quartzite marbles, refered to as flint marbles. He also played Tennessee Square. Tennessee Square is a game in which two teams of two compete to capture all of the big or "Money" marbles. Paul Moore and his son-in-law Buck Houchens were exhibitors at the Festival of Kentucky Folklife. |
