Description |
This engraving by Henry Mosler is from the March 15, 1862 edition of "Harper’s Weekly." It is a newspaper clipping. The captions say "Bowling Green, Ky. College Hill, and fortification in the distance. Pike Bridge, destroyed by the Rebels. Court-house. Railroad Bridge, destroyed by the Rebels." Two sentries relax on the bank of Barren River with the steamboat "A. White" on the water, behind. Bowling Green can be seen on the opposite bank, in the background. |
Notes |
Born in New York, Henry Mosler was trained in Cincinnati, Ohio; Dusseldorf, Germany; and Paris, France. He lived in Munich and Paris later in life. He was a correspondent for Harper's Weekly during the Civil War, and submitted almost 40 etchings for publication, illustrating battles and other war scenes. |
