Description |
This is a white cotton corset. It has detailed trapunto work that creates support with no stays. The reverse has a series of reinforced holes that would be pulled together with cord to make the corset tight. |

This piece is from the Eleanor Parker Hopkins collection. Ms. Hopkins was a costume and furnishing researcher for the stage and movie industry. Hopkins was born in Lexington, Kentucky, had a studio in New York in the 1920s, but returned to Lexington by 1940. She appears to have continued her work from Lexington, including working as an advisor on the restoration of Hunt House in Lexington. Eleanor Parker was born Lexington, Kentucky on January 5, 1879 and she died on April 19, 1974 in Lexington, at 95 years of age. Her body was interred in Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Kentucky. She married Addison Hopkins, and they had one child named Helen Elizabeth Hopkins. |
