Description |
This is a ribbon bar with ribbons for the Army Presidential Unit Citation (1992.20.32 [dup1]) and the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation (1992.20.32 [dup1]). The awards are attached to a steel backing via the brass frames around the ribbons. The Army Presidential Unit Citation is a dark blue silk ribbon surrounded by a brass frame with laurel leaf decorations. The ribbon has two bronze oak leaves attached that indicate subsequent awards of this decoration. The Philippine Presidential Unit Citation is a red, white and blue silk ribbon surrounded by a brass frame with laurel leaf decorations. Both ribbons have clear plastic inserts between the frame and the ribbon. The clusters on the Army Presidential Unit Citation are above the plastic. |
Notes |
This belonged to the donor's uncle, John H. Rodman. Col. John H. Rodman, of Owensboro, Ky., was a World War I veteran. He was a Major when he was sent to the Philippines where he led the 57th Regiment, Philippine Scouts in 1939. When war erupted two years later, he commanded the 92nd Regiment of the 91st Infantry Division, Philippine Army. Captured on April 9, 1942 on Luzon, Rodman remained a prisoner of the Japanese until September 1945. Unlike many prisoners, he communicated with his family through radio broadcast and letters. |
