Description |
This Bible is part of a chaplain's communion set used by the 138th Field Artillery. The front of the Bible is inscribed with "First Lieut. Harris Mallinckrodt / CHAPLIN, 1st KY. INF." Inside the Bible are two handwritten notes. One of the notes is from from Mallinckrodt, 1938, to "the next chaplin," and one note from the last chaplin of the 138th F.A. Regiment. Tucked inside the back of the Bible is a program from the last service held for the regiment before it was disbanded in 1942. |

This Bible is part of a communion set was used by the chaplain of the 1st Kentucky Infantry, later the 138th Field Artillery, Kentucky National Guard during the 1930's and 1940's. The set was given to the regiment by the Calvary Episcopal Church in Louisville, Kentucky. The set was then given to Col. George M. Chescheir while he was commander of the 138th before World War II.
