Description |
This is the "Lexington" trophy pitcher. It is coin silver and has floral repousee work around the body and rim. There are medallions with Oriental scenes. The handle is a double "C" curve with vines and leaves. There are acanthus leaves chased on the lip. The pitcher has an octagonal base and there is a bird and flowers on the handle. The trophy bears the inscription "Citizens Stake, won by Lexington, times 3.42 1/2, 3.41 1/2, 3.49, Spring 1853" and the maker's mark reads "GARNER & WINCHESTER LEX KY." |

The racehorse "Lexington" was bred by Dr. Elisha Warfield and owned in part by Warren Viley and Richard Tenbroeck. Garner and Winchester worked in Lexington from 1838-61. |
