Description |
This is a sterling silver card case suspended from 6" carrying chain. The front and back are embossed with flowers and scrolls on the edges. It is monogrammed on the front. The inside has three compartments of green silk. A small latch secures the middle compartment closed. Inside are two notes and a photograph. |

Given by James Q. Partee, a Baptist minister, to his wife Mabel Inez Vertrees Partee, upon his return from a National Baptist Association trip, c. 1908. It was his custom to bring her a gift. A note inside reads, "Jim gave this to me when Glovie Mabel was a baby." Inez Partee (1877- ) was born in Vine Grove in Hardin County, the daughter of Glovie and William "Buck" Vertrees. She attended Georgetown College and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. She met James Partee while he was preaching in Vine Grove and married him in 1902 . Partee (1876-1911) was born in Millville in Franklin County and preached at many Kentucky churches prior to moving to Missouri around 1901. He died in 1911 of tuberculosis and was buried in Frankfort Cemetary. |
