Member of Kentucky state house of representatives 76th District; elected 1973, 1975; Kentucky state attorney general; elected 1979; Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky, 1983-87; candidate in Democratic primary for Governor of Kentucky, 1987. Beshear was the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in 1996, losing to incumbent Republican Mitch McConnell. |
