Description |
This is a wide brimmed pink woman's hat. The crown is made of stiff blocked sinemay and has a draw string sweatband. The wide brim is machine stitched with ribbon bands and there is a large pink net flower tied to the crown, decorated with black felt polka dots and black netting and flowers. There is a maker's label in the sweatband, "Something special/ Made In China". |

Worn by Lt. Governor Jenean Hampton to the 2016 Kentucky Derby. Jenean Michelle Hampton served as the 57th lieutenant governor of Kentucky from 2015-2019. She was the running mate of Governor Matt Bevin. Hampton was the first African American to hold statewide office in Kentucky's history and the third African American woman to have served as lieutenant governor of a U.S. state. Hampton served in the United States Air Force for seven years as a computer systems officer, eventually attaining the rank of Captain, and was deployed to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm. |
