To the left of Kennedy's face the poster reads, "These are not ordinary times" in black text. The bottom of the flier says "Make your vote count on May 7th." in blue text. The flier opens up to an area that has six black and white photos of Kennedy working and/or campaigning and lists Kennedy's qualifications, experience, and ideas with the titles "Man of Experience" on the left page and "Man of Ideas" on the right page, both in large blue text. The back of the flier has two more images of Kennedy. The upper picture shows an image of Kennedy with his children and dogs and has a caption of "I am concerned about our country's future, not only as a citizen, but as a father," in white text. The lower image is of Kennedy by himself, staring off into the distance, with "Kennedy" in blue text across the bottom of the photo. Underneath the first image and to the left of the second, there is text that reads, 'Indiana can choose / the next President / of the United States / MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT / ON MAY 7th-" in black text. Notes |
Robert Kennedy was an American politician, a Democratic senator from New York, and a noted civil rights activist. He was a younger brother of President John F. Kennedy and acted as one of his advisors during his presidency. From 1961 to 1964, he was the U.S. Attorney General. Following his brother John's assassination in 1963, Kennedy continued to serve as Attorney General under President Lyndon B. Johnson. In September of 1964, Kennedy resigned to seek the U.S. Senate seat from New York, which he won in November. In March 1968, Kennedy began a campaign for the presidency. In the California presidential primary on June 4, Kennedy narrowly defeated Eugene McCarthy, a U.S. Senator from Minnesota. Following a brief victory speech at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, Kennedy was shot by Sirhan Sirhan, a Palestinian Arab. Kennedy died early in the morning of June 6. This object was donated on November 14, 1991 by Drexell Davis. Davis, a self-described "Yellow Dog" Democrat, held several elected positions in the Kentucky state government. His thirty-three years of public service prompted his interest in collecting political memorabilia. |
