Notes |
The clothing in this collection belonged to Mary Hearne Lockhart (1882-1915) and Aylette Buckner (1876-1935). (Mary Lockhart was the daughter of attorney Catlett Lockhart who was the lawyer for Elisha Green.) They were married on June 15, 1904. The clothing came from a large steamer trunk of family clothing. The trunk was taken with the Buckners on their "grand tour" of Europe after their wedding. During the tour, Mary contracted tuberculosis. She died in 1915 and her belongings were placed in the trunk. Mary and Aylette had one son, Catlett Buckner (1907-1995). The United States Navy aviator helmet in this collection was used by him in WWII. Catlett attended the University of Virginia before enlisting. |
