Description |
This is Mr. Churchill's workshop apron. It is waist length and is made of khaki cotton canvas. There are two shoulder straps connected behind the neck in an H-shape. There is a circular neck and two symmetrical patch breast pockets (left and right). They have a straight top and bottom and rounded sides. The pockets are divided into five vertical rectangular sections. Brown thread divides these sections and the thread is visible from outside the pocket. There are four horizontal rectangular patch pockets around the waist made from a single piece of material. Brown thread is visible around the edges of them. There is a small flap of fabric sewn in the back with a button hole for fastening. The button is missing and there is a rectangular piece of blue fabric attached to the flap using small metal pin. |

Churchill Weavers was started in 1922 by David Carroll and Eleanor Churchill in Berea, Kentucky. The company produced luxury hand-woven fabrics such as throws, baby blankets, ties, wraps and commissioned art pieces. In 1973, Lila and Richard Bellando bought the business from Mrs. Churchill. Churchill Weavers closed in 2007. That same year, the Kentucky Historical Society was able to purchase the collection which includes museum artifacts such as looms, fabric samples, finished woven pieces, and designs, as well as archival materials such as photographs, account ledgers, advertisement materials, business records and films. |
