Description |
This is a paper commission naming John B. Guthrie to 2nd Lieutenant in the Fifth Ky. Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Co. C. There is an image of the seal of the Commonwealth at the top center. There is an embossed seal on the lower left. It is signed by Governor James H. Robinson. On the back is an oath naming Guthrie and signed by him. The document is preprinted in black ink with various spaces where information has been hand written in black ink. The wording is framed in a decorative line frame. |

John B. Guthrie joined the Fifth Kentucky Infantry as a corporal. He was rapidly promoted, becoming a 2nd lieutenant in December 1862. The unit was mustered out in June 1864. |
