This is page 260 from Harper's Weekly April 5, 1890 edition. The page shows a series of images from around Louisville, Ky. All of the images on this page are also colored quite possibly by hand, with shades of yellow red and blue. The top five images are various building structures throughout Louisville and the bottom image is one large overhead view of the city on the riverfront. The top image is captioned "The Ohio River Ship-Canal, and J., M., and O. Railroad Bridge." It shows a picture of two barges and a riverboat docked next to a shoreline with a bridge off in the distance. There are for image in a row under this image. The first image is captioned "The City Hall" and shows a three story governmental structure with a small clock tower and a triangular pediment on the roof. The second building is captioned "The Court-House" and shows a neoclassical structure with a colonnade front holding up a pediment structure. The third image is captioned "Tobacco Warehouse" and shows a series of small two story buildings with barrels lined up in front. The final image in this row is captioned "The "Federal Building" and shows a four story structure with a small spire tower and pediments with winged figures on the roof. The Bottom image is captioned "Bird's-Eye View of the City. / The City of Louisville and its Public Buildings before the Storm of Thursday, March 27th.-From Photographs.-[See Page 262.]" The image shows a large river wining through a cityscape and nature. There are mountains off in the distance with puffy clouds hanging overhead. There are some steamboats drifting along the canal. The backside of the pages is the article "A Memorable Storm. /By William A. Eddy." that describes the tornado event that occurred on April 5th in Louisville, KY. In the top left corner of page 262, there is a map of the United States with a series of "x" marking the line of the storm, and a dashed circle showing the center of the storm. This map is entitled "Map Showing the Course of the Storm." In the center of page 259, there is an image showing a church in the gothic revival style. It is captioned, "The Memorial Church at Spires." |
