Description |
This is a hand tinted lithograph of Zachary Taylor, seen full length and standing beside a black horse. In the background is a military camp featuring drilling soldiers and Sibley tents. Taylor wears black cavalry boots that cover kis knees, white breeches, a blue coatee with gold epaulettes, and white gloves. In his right hand he holds a feathered bicorne hat and he leans on the horse, which is facing towards the camp, with his left arm, while looking off to his right. The horse appears to be skittish, and looks to the right with an alarmed expression. The print is surrounded by a black double-lined border. Under the border to the left is typed, "Kellogg's & Thayer,/44 Fulton St, N.Y." To the right under the border is more black text reading, "D. Needham 223 Main St, Buffalo." At the center, also below the vorder, is still more black text reading, "E.B. & E.C. Kellogg 136. Main St. Hartford Conn." Centered at the bottom, in white text outlined in black is the title followed by the location in black: "GENERAL Z. TAYLOR, / at Matamoras." A small black number is centered at the bottom of the page, but has been cut off so only the top half of the number remains. |
