Notes |
Gabriel Slaughter (1767-1830) was governor of Kentucky from 1816 to 1820. Elected lieutenant governor in 1816, Slaughter became governor upon the death of George Madison. Slaughter angered the legislature early in his term, and his efforts to change state government were blocked at every turn. He put forth proposals for a public school system, prison reform, and a state library, but all were rejected by the General Assembly. The artist, Ferdinand G. Walker (1859-1927), was active in Indiana and Kentucky. He is known for Portrait and landscape murals. |
