Description |
This fixed hand fan is made from a piece of circular, blue cardstock which has been stapled to a wooden lathe handle with two metal staples. The handle is thin and has rounded ends. Across the top edge of the circle in white ink is printed "The first family" in all capital letters. Below this are black and white photographs of Bill and Hillary Clinton which sit over a red and white ribbon. The black and white photographs are in oval frames and have the names "Bill Clinton" and "Hilary Clinton" printed underneath them in white ink. Along the bottom edge in white ink is printed "Rebuilds America" in capital letters. The back of the fan is plain white. |

Incumbent Democrat Bill Clinton was re-elected President in 1996 over Republican Bob Dole. Clinton was the 50th Attorney General of Arkansas and the 40th and 42nd Governor of Arkansas before his election to the Presidency. His wife, Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton is currently the 67th United States Secretary of State, serving in the administration of President Barack Obama. She was a United States Senator for New York from 2001 to 2009. She was the First Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001. This object was donated on August 26, 1997 by Drexell R. Davis. Davis, a self-described "Yellow Dog" Democrat, held several elected positions in the Kentucky state government. His thirty-three years of public service prompted his interest in collecting political memorabilia. |
