Description |
The image is a print that was taken from Ballou's Pictorial Drawing Room Companion, Boston, 1856. Its caption below reads "Cave-In-Rock, On the Ohio River." The image shows a steamboat sailing through open waters with smoke bellowing from its smokestacks. Birds are flying down to the water on the right of the boat while two small rowboats are drifting on both sides of the boat. In the background are small islands filled with treas. Far off into the distance is another steamboat sailing near the horizon line on the left side. Large puffy clouds also hang off in the distance. An artist signature that reads "W. J. Peirce" is visible in the lower right corner of the image. On the back of the image there are sections printed articles. |
