Description |
This is a Kentucky State Guard sword belt buckle. It is a rectangular brass plate with a modest curve. Cast in relief on the front is a spread winged eagle seal of U.S. The bird is clutching an olive branch in one foot and a bunch of arrows in the other. There is a large ribbon below and thirteen stars above. On the reverse there is a loop to hold the belt in and a folded brass plate to engage another brass loop (now loose) from the far end of the belt. |

Worn by David Fenimore Cooper Weller, b. 3-1-1843 in Elizabethtown, KY. Served in Co. C, 2nd Ky Infantry, Lewis' Brigade. Following the war, Weller served in the Kentucky State Guard. d. 10-09-1943 in Louisville, KY. |
