Description |
This is a State of North Carolina twenty-five cent fractional currency note, January 1, 1864 issue, plate K. It is printed in black ink with blue overprint on beige paper. The serial number is 532. It is located near the bottom, left of center. The main image is located in the lower left corner and is Ceres standing with wheat in her left hand. In the upper left corner is a ribbon surrounded by floral decoration and inscribed "BY AUTHORITY OF LAW." In the center is inscribed in a variety of fonts "THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINIA / Will pay to Bearer, at the Treasury / on or before January 1, 1870 / TWENTY-FIVE CENTS. / RALEIGH, Jany. 1, 1864." Over the denomination is an overprint in blue "25 Cts." Below this is the serial number and the signature for the public treasurer. In the upper right corner is a patterned circle with the number "25" in it. Below this is inscribed "Receivable / in payment of all / Public dues." The maker's mark is on the right edge "J.T. Patterson & Co. Augusta, Ga." The reverse is blank. |
