Description |
This crystal cruet (part a) and jeweler's cloth bag (part b) are part of a chaplain's communion set used by the 138th Field Artillery. The cruet has a round base with nine raised vertical ridges with rounded tops that decorate the body of the container. The neck is narrow and has an applied handle. The ewer has a rounded spout, and the container has a crystal topper with a cross on top. The ewer is stored inside of a light blue jeweler's cloth bag (part b) that has a white rectangular embroidered label that reads, "Wm Kendrick's Sons / Jewelers / LOUISVILLE, KY." The bag has serged seams and a flap secured with a metal snap. |
Notes |
This communion set was used by the chaplain of the 1st Kentucky Infantry, later the 138th Field Artillery, Kentucky National Guard during the 1930's and 1940's. The set was given to the regiment by the Calvary Episcopal Church in Louisville, Kentucky. The set was then given to Col. George M. Chescheir while he was commander of the 138th before World War II. |
