This landscape features the memorial monument to Daniel Boone that is in the Frankfort Cemetery in the center surrounded by 4 trees. The painting also features trees in the background. |
Notes |
Sawyier painted several images of the monument including this one and at least two others in the KHS collections. The donor, Anne Thomas (1860-1938) was the daughter of Landon and Ellen Thomas and lived at 312 Washington Street in Frankfort. Landon Thomas (1799-1889) was a wealthy Frankfort attorney and land owner. Anne Thomas was a member of the board of KHS and her heirs donated a number of paintings, prints, clothing and antique housewares to the Society after her death. |
