Description |
This is a United States Marine Corps "Alpha" or "Series A" Dress Uniform Pant. Composed of forest green wool, the pants are secured by a metal zipper and green plastic button. "Burrows, R.T." is stamped in black ink of the inner waistband. The pants are size Regular W-30 L-34. |

This uniform (2023.18.1-.3) belonged to Lance Corporal Roger Thomas Burrows (1950-1968). Born in Georgetown, Burrows enlisted in the Marine Corps during his senior year of High School at Scott County High. Arriving in Vietnam on February 1, 1968, Burrows died four months later on June 10, 1968 of gunshot wounds to the body from a hostile automatic rifle while on patrol in the Thua Thiên province. He held the rank of Lance Corporal in Company H, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Division at the time of his death. Burrow is featured on both the Kentucky and National Vietnam War Memorials. His death may be tied to the activity around Operation Houston. With the securing of Hue in late February 1968, Task Force X-Ray, a brigade-size component of the 1st Marine Division, built around the 1st and 5th Marine Regiments at Phu Bai Combat Base, prepared to take the offiensive to open Route 1 between Da Nang and Phu Bai, which had been closed since the Tet Offensive.
