Description |
This Confederate Kepi has a brown wool crown, with a black leather brim trimmed in a cotton piping. The fabric is a gray woolen weft on a white or light tan cotton warp. The piece has a black leather chin strap. The left temple has a brass Federal eagle button. The interior is lined with a blue cotton fabric with flowers and has a black leather head band. |

This Chasseur-pattern kepi was worn by Kentuckian Robert C. Anderson. He served in the 1st Kentucky Infantry (CSA) and reenlisted in the 2nd Kentucky Infantry (CSA). Anderson was killed during the Battle of Chickamauga on September 20, 1863. The Confederate First Kentucky Brigade, nicknamed the Orphan Brigade, included the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 9th Kentucky Infantry regiments and Cobb’s, Byrne’s and Graves’s batteries of artillery, and, at times, the 3rd and 5th Kentucky Infantry. |
