Description |
This is an alternate pin commemorating the Democratic National Convention of 1928 held in Houston, Texas. The pin face has an arching shape with a torch at the top. The words "Alternate 1928 Houston," are stamped on the top. The ribbon is red, white, and blue, and is gathered at the bottom near the medal. The medal is round with an eagle at the top and the words, "Democratic National Convention" printed around the border of the medal. A stately building is featured in the center of the medal. A maker's mark is featured on the back. The mark is in a circular pattern with a diamond in the center. There are beams around it and at the top bottom and sides are the letters (with the beams) JWU6. |

The Democratic presidential candidate in 1928 was Alfred Smith, who lost to Herbert Hoover. Sam Houston Hall, the 20,000-person hall was built in a hurry for the 1928 Democratic National Convention – it took only 64 days to complete. |
