Description |
This is a U.S. Army Medical Service saddlebag used by a doctor during and probably after the Civil War. It has two stitched leather pouches connected by a hourglass shaped leather strap that goes over the horse. There is a round whole in the center of that strap and each side has a hole with a brass covering and a strap running through it. One side has "Boyt" stamped on the leather. Each pouch has a flap with three straps and three brass buckles. The straps run through the flaps. There is a brass ring running through a leather loop attached with two brass rivets on the back at the bottom of each pouch. Each pouch has four brass rivets at the top of them. |

John T. Robinson went to Cleveland Homes Medical College, class of 1861. Born 4/11/1829 in Princeton Indiana and dies 4/5/1911 in Warsaw, Kentucky. He was the son of Samuel B. Robinson and Lydia M. Robinson. They moved to Gallatin County, Enelson's Landing later in 1829. He served as a river boat pilot until 1853, in 1852 he married Miss L.C. Moore and had five children. One of them was also a doctor, Samuel B. Robinson born 1856 and died 1921. He graduated from Puete Medical College in Cincinnati and married Hattie Swepe in 1891. They have a wooden case with brass hardware labeled "M.A. Spencer & Co." Surgical and Dental Depot. Cincinnati. Tools- Shepard and Dudley Set is intact with exception of large bore saw. Orville B. Yager - Born 11/08/1840 - Raised in Henry County, Yager worked on the family farm while studying with his physician father. Yager enlisted July 1, 1861 under Breckinridge in General John Hunt Morgan's 9th Kentucky Cavalry, Company G. Yager transferred to General Wheeler's division in 1863. He was wounded three times, and became a Lieutenant . He was discharged on May 13, 1865. An 1867 graduate from the Miami Medical College at Cincinnati, Orville moved to Glencoe, KY in 1869 where he practiced medicine. Collected by the donor's husband, Dr. Carl Bogardus, in Gallatin County. |
