This is an original cartoon black plate by Hugh Haynie. It features an image of Saddam Hussein wearing the ears, hands, shorts, and feet of the Mickey Mouse character and a military jacket and hat. The figure is sticking out its tongue and is waving its hands near its ears. There are measurements and markings for printing in red on the left and bottom edges. |

Hugh Smith Haynie was born February 6, 1927 in Reedville, VA. Haynie served in the US Coast Guard and following WWII attended the College of William and Mary. Following college, Haynie began his career as a cartoonist in Richmond, VA in 1953. Haynie then moved to Greensboro, NC and Atlanta, GA before he was hiried by Barry Bingham of the Louisville Courier-Journal in 1958. Haynie worked for the Courier-Journal until his retirement on October 1, 1995. Hugh Haynie passed away in 1999. An exhibit of his work was displayed at the Kentucky Historical Society from December 14, 2002-March 30, 2003. In many of his works, Haynie hid the name Lois in the drawing. Lois was Hugh Haynie's wife. |
