Notes |
Marion Eugene "Gene" Snyder was the city attorney of Jeffersontown, Kentucky from 1954 until 1958, and he was elected magistrate of the first district of Jefferson County for two terms (1958 to 1962). Snyder was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-eighth Congress, serving from 1963 to 1965. However, he was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1964 to the Eighty-ninth Congress. He was then elected in 1966 to the Ninetieth Congress, and he held this seat for the nine succeeding Congresses. In 1982, he secured federal funds to build a beltway around Louisville. For this reason, a portion of I-265 was named for him and is called the Gene Snyder Freeway. This object was donated on January 14, 1994 by Drexell Davis. Davis, a self-described "Yellow Dog" Democrat, held several elected positions in the Kentucky state government. His thirty-three years of public service prompted his interest in collecting political memorabilia. |
